Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions section for the Pilot of the Brand New, NHS Assured version of the DIMEC App in Eastern Cheshire. Don’t forget, if you can’t find an answer here, just Contact Us and we’ll do what we can to help.
How does it work?
Ordering your NHS repeat prescriptions has never been easier. Simply, connect directly to your GP and choose which pharmacy you want your medicines from. Each pharmacy is different: choose the one that works for you! Place your next prescription order through the DIMEC App, sit back and relax. We have How To videos here.
Do I need to tell my GP?
All you need to do is visit your GP with photo ID (Driver’s Licence or Passport) and ask to “Register for Online Services”. They’ll give you an important piece of paper, just follow the simple instructions and you’re good to go. There’s no need to tell the GP that you will be ordering you medicines through the DIMEC App.
Are my details safe?
Data security is our most important consideration. Only you can see the medicines you’ve added to the app which is protected by a PIN number. They are locked to you phone – we can’t even see them!
We adhere to the Caldicott Principles of data handling; we’re SCCI 0129 & IGSoC compliant as well.
How long does it take?
This can vary from one GP surgery to another as it depends how quickly they will issue your repeat prescriptions. The rule of thumb is to allow at least two working days. After your prescription is issued, your chosen pharmacy will notify you when they’re dispensing it and when it can be collected. If you’ve chosen DIMEC Pharmacy, it’ll be posted out to you.
On that basis, it will take around four days from ordering your medicines in the app to them being available for collection or dropping through your letterbox. We’d recommend placing an order when you have around a week’s worth of tablets left.
Can I order other medicines that aren’t on my repeat prescription?
No, only the medicines that are on your repeat prescription from your GP can be repeated. The DIMEC App doesn’t process requests for items that are not given to you on a repeat basis. If you have any questions about what is or isn’t on your repeat, we’d recommend contacting your GP or your chosen pharmacy.
I pay for my prescription. How does this work?
If you’ve chosen any pharmacy other than DIMEC Pharmacy, you can pay on collection of your medicines or with the driver (contact your chosen pharmacy directly for details).
If you’ve chosen DIMEC Pharmacy to deliver your medicines in the post then click “I pay for my prescriptions” box. You’ll be asked to enter your card details. You will only be charged at the standard prescription levy of £8.40.
I’m exempt from prescription charges. How do I tell you this?
When ordering your repeat prescription, just tick the exemption that applies to you and carry on ordering as normal.
Where do my medicines come from?
All UK pharmacies use a variety of UK wholesalers that are all highly regulated so you can be sure that you are receiving quality, genuine medicines. Should you have any specific requests, let your pharmacy know by leaving a comment with your order.
I'm going away. How can I order my prescription early?
If you need to order your prescription early, order as normal but just leave a message in the comments section to say why, such as you’re going on holiday.
This will be passed on to your GP.
Can I have my tablets delivered to my work?
Of course, provided your chosen pharmacy offers a delivery service. We suggest you contact your chosen pharmacy directly for details.
Once I sign up, am I tied to my chosen Pharmacy?
There are no minimum contract lengths. If you’d like to change to another pharmacy, just select a different pharmacy in the app and continue as normal.
Some of my medicines are controlled drugs...
Allow a little extra time for these medicines to be processed as they will take a little longer to come through from your GP.
How are the items sent?
If your chosen pharmacy offers a delivery service they will deliver locally using their own service. DIMEC Pharmacy will post your prescriptions using Royal Mail.
We suggest you contact your chosen pharmacy directly for details.
How can I check that my chosen pharmacy is a UK registered Pharmacy?
Only UK Registered Pharmacies can be selected within the DIMEC App. These Pharmacies are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You can search their registers by clicking here.
